DONATE COPIES OF MY ÁNTONIA FOR OUR TROOPS

  • In support of One Book One State, Farmers Co-Op of Red Cloud will be accepting donations of new and used copies of My Ántonia and free will donations to purchase the book. All of the books will be sent to our Troops through "Operation Paperback" in March.
  • Please bring donations to the Farmer's Co-Op Station, Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. or Saturday 8:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. by March 1, 2005.

  • Hear from Antonette Willa Turner and learn of her grandmother, "Ántonia's," life and relationship to Willa Cather.
  • Betty Kort, Executive Director of the Willa Cather Pioneer Memorial and Educational Foundation, will speak about Cather and Cather's relationship with quilts.
  • University of Nebraska-Kearney English professor, Susanne George Bloomfield, explains how her career connects the past with the future.
  • Program includes quilting demonstrations, book signings, question and answer sessions, Cadette and Senior Girl Scout participation.

Librarians and staff at Omaha Public Library are inviting readers and wannabe readers of Willa Cather's My Ántonia to join one or more Nebraska Reads discussion groups.
Nebraska Reads was initiated by the Cather Foundation as the first statewide reading project to honor the 50th anniversary of the Willa Cather Pioneer Memorial and Educational Foundation in Red Cloud, NE.

The Cather Foundation will hold its 50th Annual Spring Festival in Red Cloud, Nebraska. Cather scholars from throughout the United States will be available to lead discussions and answer questions about My Ántonia. The Cather Foundation will take the discussion of My Ántonia to a new level. People from across Nebraska will be invited to participate.

Winners of a statewide writing competition will receive prizes and awards at the 2005 Spring Festival in Red Cloud in special ceremonies at the newly restored Red Cloud Opera House. The writing competition will be open to secondary school students across the state.

A preview screening of PBS' American Masters series biography Willa Cather: The Road is All will be held at the Red Cloud Opera House. PBS will broadcast the Cather biography on the American Masters series in 2005. Admission is free. Call 402-746-2641 to reserve seats. The biography will also be previewed in Omaha, Lincoln, and Scottsbluff. Look for times and places in the community closest to you.
