Cather's childhood home There were nine family members living in the home originally: two parents, four children, Grandmother Boak, a cousin, and the hired girl. Three more Cather children were later born in the house (seven Cather children total). The house is described most obviously in The Song of the Lark, "Old Mrs. Harris," and "The Best Years."
