Go for Baroque: Hear the Rhythm of the Road, Route 66

Opera House

Red Cloud Opera House
413 N Webster Street
Red Cloud, NE 68970
United States

Join us as Go for Baroque puts the pedal to the metal for a joyride of treasured songs and whimsical tunes. Travel with this gifted ensemble along the Main Street of America with music brought over by those who settled this land. Just as the Burlington and Missouri River Railroad once brought settlers across the country to Red Cloud and beyond, Route 66 and its 2,500 miles of roadway carried Americans across the country between Chicago and Los Angeles. From places as distant from each other as Scotland and Peru, communities sprang up along the “Mother Road” and began to meld together a vast array of melodies and musical instruments which Go for Baroque explores and celebrates in one of its most popular programs. This is an entertaining and heart-warming evening of eclectic tunes which have come to make up the American soundtrack. You’ll hear songs from Bach to Joplin, and learn how their music connects to this ramblin’ road. Prepare to get more than your share of kicks on this musical tour of Route 66!

The ensemble includes pianist Peggy Payne, violinist Densi Rushing, and cellist Jim Shelley.

This project is generously funded by Mid-America Arts Alliance, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the state arts agencies of Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Texas. All programming at the National Willa Cather Center's Red Cloud Opera House is made possible with the support of the Nebraska Arts Council and the Nebraska Cultural Endowment.
