Red Cloud, Nebraska is said to be the most famous little town in America, and those of us at the Willa Cather Foundation know that this is true. The Red Cloud Opera House and Cather Center sees nearly 10,000 visitors from all over the world pass through its doors each year. Those visitors need places to stay, and our little town has a number of quaint options.
 CATHER SECOND HOME
Willa Cather's parents purchased this home in 1903 and left their little rented home at Third and Cedar where Cather had spent her formative years. Over the next 28 years, Cather often visited her family in this house during summers and occasionally for Christmas, and was frequently seen reading and writing on the upper front porch. Cather described this house as the Ferguesson family home in one of her final short stories, "The Best Years," first published in The Old Beauty and Others. Visitors may rent the room that was Cather's, or the rooms of her parents and siblings. The entire home may also be rented for family retreats, meetings, and special occasions. The Willa Cather Foundation acquired this property in 2011 with a generous gift from a Cather family descendant.
