"There are only two or three human stories, and they go on repeating themselves as fiercely as if they have never happened before."

Willa Cather's Room
The most cherished room of the Cather childhood home is Willa Cather's adolescent bedroom. Here remains the original wallpaper she meticulously hung herself, and bartered from her time spent working at the local pharmacy. Visitors can see her beloved iris picture and seashell collection, given to her by a local man. The seashell collection represents Cather's desire and need to see and experience far away places, and to visit the exotic corners of her imagination.

"From the time she moved up into the wing, Thea began to live a double life. During the day, when the hours were full of tasks, she was one of the Kronborg children, but at night she was a different person." The Song of the Lark

"Life rushed upon her through that window-or so it seemed. In reality of course, life rushes from within, not from without." The Song of the Lark

“When she went away from it for good, she would leave something that she could never recover; memories of pleasant excitement, of happy adventures in her mind of warm sleep on howling winter nights, and joyous awakenings on summer mornings.” The Song of the Lark
