About the WCF: The Willa Cather Foundation is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that works to promote the legacy of Pulitzer Prize-winning author Willa Cather through education, historic preservation, and the arts. Since its founding in 1955, the WCF has been located in Red Cloud—a small and vibrant community in south-central Nebraska where Cather spent her formative years.

Position: The role of the Program & Marketing Coordinator is to plan, implement, and promote the annual season of events and exhibits at the Red Cloud Opera House. The Coordinator will also be responsible for general marketing of the Willa Cather Foundation and cultivating relationships with performers, artists, patrons, and media outlets.

Program Planning Duties:

  • Work with the Executive Director and the Programming Committee to select monthly programs for the Red Cloud Opera House. Lead the Programming Committee and work closely with its members.
  • Identify artists and book exhibits and receptions for the Foundation’s art gallery.
  • Draft and execute performer contracts and gallery agreements for artists.
  • Oversee the fulfillment of contract riders and booking of technical support prior to programs.
  • Work with the Volunteer Coordinator to arrange volunteer support for each event.
  • Assist with gathering information for grant proposals and/or reporting.

Marketing Duties:

  • Create and implement an annual marketing and promotion plan.
  • Draft and distribute press releases and ads to local and regional media.
  • Design and oversee distribution of promotional posters for events and exhibits.
  • Update and maintain the WCF’s website regularly, including the homepage, event calendar, news articles, bookstore, and ticketing.
  • Create relevant content and post regular updates to Facebook and Twitter pages.
  • Assist in developing content for quarterly print newsletters and monthly electronic newsletters.
  • Work to secure ad buys and encourage editorial copy to benefit the organization.
  • Compile annual report for management showing marketing and social media return on investment (ROI).

Education and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • One to two years of marketing or programming experience is preferred
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to take initiative, be innovative, detail oriented, organized, friendly, and interact effectively with patrons, artists, and community members
  • An interest in literature and the performing arts
  • Social media skills and ability to use Microsoft or Adobe design applications is desired 

Schedule:

Typically Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and occasional weekends as needed for conferences, seminars, rentals, and Opera House programs.

Salary and Benefits:

This is a full-time, salaried position. Compensation will be based on experience. Benefits, including health insurance, IRA, paid holidays, and paid time off (PTO) are available.
