Association of Nebraska Art Clubs Traveling Exhibition

Association of Nebraska Art Clubs Traveling Exhibition

Friday, April 10, 2015

The Red Cloud Area Artists as a part of the Association of Nebraska Art Clubs and the Willa Cather Foundation are pleased to display the “Best of Nebraska,” a statewide traveling art exhibition, on display at the Red Cloud Opera House from April 7-April 27. Every year the ANAC state competition selects 25 pieces to be honored by traveling through Nebraska’s galleries. This year’s theme was “A Splash of Gold” as the association celebrated its 50th annual show.

This year’s exhibition boasts a fantastic variety of styles from realistic watercolors to abstract sculpture. The exhibition includes artists from Columbus, Lincoln, Kearney, and Grand Island, to name a few. Every club can enter a third of its membership in the state competition, with only twenty-five artists selected at state for the traveling show. There are 42 clubs involved and 776 members.

Red Cloud-based artists Gwen Lewis and her daughter Christi Lewis-Wilson competed in the state competition last year and each received an Award of Merit. They are members of the Red Cloud Area Artists group. Both Gwen and Christi hold leadership positions within the ANAC organization. Gwen is in charge of membership and Christi is a member of the exhibit board.

Drop by the Red Cloud Opera House to see terrific artwork by talented artists from right here in Nebraska. For more information please call the Red Cloud Opera House at 402-746-2641 or go online to www.WillaCather.org.

Art exhibits at the Cather Foundation’s Red Cloud Opera House are made possible with the support of Nebraska Arts Council, the Nebraska Cultural Endowment, and the National Endowment for the Arts.
