A New Garden Ethic: Lecture by Landscape Designer Benjamin Vogt

Friday, April 27, 2018 -
4:00pm to 5:15pm
Red Cloud Opera House

The Cather Foundation welcomes author and landscape designer Benjamin Vogt of Monarch Gardens, LLC, to the Red Cloud Opera House on Friday, April 27, at 4:00 p.m. as part of the WCF’s Earth Week activities. Vogt will be discussing his book, A New Garden Ethic, and discuss the importance of native plants in our landscapes. “Native plant gardens are not looking backward,” Vogt writes in his book. “Using native plants .is . . . about going forward and helping flora and fauna adapt to a world we’re altering at breakneck speed.” Vogt asks gardeners to reconsider why we garden, how we garden, and who we garden for. A New Garden Ethic is available in the Willa Cather Foundation bookstore. Vogt’s talk is free and open to the public.

Benjamin Vogt’s writing and photography has appeared in more than sixty publications—from literary journals to gardening magazines, as well as his regular native plant gardening column at Houzz.com. He is a regular speaker on prairie garden design, sustainable gardening, and wildlife landscapes. This lecture is made possible through a donation from the Claire M. Hubbard Foundation for supporting educational programming.
