Virtual Author Series: Dr. Guy Reynolds

Thursday, August 19, 2021 - 7:00pm

Tune in for what is sure to be an engrossing talk with Dr. Guy Reynolds, professor of English at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. His new book, Sensing Willa Cather: The Writer and the Body in Transition, offers Cather readers and scholars fresh perspectives on her work through the critical lens of Body Studies. The book presents new understandings of Cather's depictions of disability, male bodies and Native American culture, narratives of whiteness and the black body, and the sensory worlds of Cather's fiction. Dr. Reynolds will give a reading from his book with a live Q&A session to follow. Register for the event here.

You can purchase the book from our website HERE.

About the Author

Guy Reynolds is a professor and chair of the undergraduate program and curriculum committee at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Reynolds was the general editor of the Willa Cather Scholarly Edition and Cather Studies from 2005-2019, and his other work on Cather includes the Bedford edition of My Ántonia and Reynolds has directed three Cather International Seminars. Reynolds describes his new book, Sensing Willa Cather: The Writer and the Body in Transition, as a body studies account of Cather's work, with emphasis on how the five senses are represented in her work and how those representations form the basis of narrative itself.
