"Greatness Returning to Simplicity":
Regularly considered one of the Top 100 novels in American Literature, Death Comes for the Archbishop marks a high point of Willa Cather's literary career. Her novel, set in frontier New Mexico, focuses on the lives of two friends, Father Latour and Father Valliant. Though Cather's characters are based on historical figures, this episodic novel is experimental in its execution. This exhibit explores Cather's inspirations and sources, as well as the lasting themes readers still explore today.
