Willa Cather State Historic Site Featured in 2012 Nebraska Passport

The Willa Cather State Historic Site/Red Cloud Opera House is one of 80 attractions included in the 2012 Nebraska Passport. The program, created by the Department of Economic Development's Travel and Tourism Division, encourages travelers to explore Nebraska. Participants collect stamps from participating attractions and then redeem them for prizes.

Attractions selected for the 2012 program are organized into 10 special-interest tours: culinary, culture, family fun, festivals, golf, GROW Nebraska, parks, water adventure, wineries and unique accommodations. The Willa Cather State Historic Site/Red Cloud Opera House is part of the culture tour.

Travelers have until September 30, to visit attractions and redeem their stamps for prizes. For each completed tour, participants receive a Nebraska Passport T-shirt. Travelers can also win a $25 GROW Nebraska gift card (for 25 stamps) and a Canon Powershot digital camera (for 40 stamps). In addition, a grand-prize drawing for an iPad valued at approximately $800 will be held in October.

Some of the things travelers can experience at the Willa Cather State Historic Site/Red Cloud Opera House include:

  • Tours of 7 historic buildings relating to the life of Willa Cather;
  • Performances and exhibits at the historic Red Cloud Opera House;
  • Hiking and wildflower viewing on the native 608-acre Willa Cather Memorial Prairie.

Tourists in the area are also encouraged to visit Superior Estates Winery in nearby Superior and Stuhr Museum of the Prairie Pioneer in nearby Grand Island.
