Catherine Pond

Marketing Coordinator

Catherine Seiberling Pond joined the Willa Cather Foundation in 2018 as its marketing coordinator. She has worked for numerous historic sites and related nonprofits in donor and public relations, and began her career living and giving tours in a Victorian house museum in Boston. Except for a delightful ten-year, off-and-on, stint at the counter of an artisan bakery during college and grad school, she has always worked for nonprofit organizations. As a freelance writer specializing in articles on home and place, Catherine has written for a variety of media outlets: most recently The New Territory and Literary Hub, and she is a regular contributor to a website on country living, Rethink:Rural. In 2007 she wrote The Pantry-Its History and Modern Uses, a cultural, design and architectural history of domestic spaces. She has her master's in historic preservation from Boston University and a bachelor's in art history from Wheaton College in Massachusetts. While growing up in Jaffrey, New Hampshire, Catherine developed a deep appreciation for Willa Cather's writing and is especially interested in the author's use of landscape, architecture, and domestic scenes in her fiction.

In 2008, Catherine and her family moved from their New Hampshire home to a Kentucky farm and from where she works remotely, with trips to Red Cloud throughout the year. In the six months before her sixtieth birthday in 2022, Catherine became a first-time grandmother three times over—a grandchild from each of her three children—and she couldn't feel any happier or more blessed.
