One Small Photo is a collection of poems and one short story that found their way together because of the number twenty-two.

Twenty-two veterans commit suicide daily in the United States. Veterans make up approximately 9.7 percent of the U.S. population, yet they account for 22 percent of all suicides in this country.

To raise awareness of these numbers, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Student Veteran Organization works with the University of Iowa Veterans Association on a Ruck March before the annual post-Thanksgiving Husker-Hawkeye football game. The Ruck Marchers carry either twenty-two pounds of personal belongings, or twenty-two items, as they walk halfway between their campuses to meet in the middle and exchange the game ball.

In One Small Photo, Becky Faber has collected works that relate to military service, war, and the after-effects of service.

A percentage of the sales of One Small Photo will be donated to UNL’s Student Veteran Organization to assist with expenses for the Ruck March.

About the Author

Becky Faber has published extensively in poetry venues, anthologies, and literary journals. Additionally, for over twenty years she has been a manuscript reader and assistant editor for the creative writing journal Plainsongs.
