Cather Book Club: The Old Man and the Sea
On April 20 the Willa Cather Book Club will meet to discuss The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway. This novel won the 1953 Pulitzer for Fiction. Old Man is Hemingway’s only Pulitzer, although many considered this an inferior work. The story of Santiago, a poor fisherman, and his greatest catch, not only won the Pulitzer but helped Hemingway to receive the Nobel Prize for literature the following year. There are two meeting times available; 4:00 p.m. at Cherry Corner Estates and 6:30 at the On the Brix.
Todd Green and his cultural instruments
Todd Green performs original music inspired by many different cultures in the Middle East, Central Asia, Far East and South America on over 30 acoustic string, flute and percussion instruments. His advanced, custom-built electronics gives him almost unlimited freedom to layer instruments as he performs, in effect turning him into a high-tech one-man-band of World Music. Todd has performed for well over 300,000 students over the years. He is a great communicator with any age and very knowledgeable about the instruments and the musical traditions of the many cultures they represent.

There are two meeting times available; 4:00 p.m. at Cherry Corner Estates and 6:30 at the Cather Second Home.

Tintypes
Brought to us by Hastings Community Theatre in Hastings, NE. This Tony nominated, nostalgic, musical revue takes us back to turn of the century America.
The story of these changing times blazes to life in a tuneful, high-spirited brew of popular songs from 1890 to 1917, performed by five archetypes of the period: Anna Held, the beautiful music hall star; Emma Goldman, the notorious socialist; a domestic worker; a Chaplin-esque Russian immigrant; and the outrageous Teddy Roosevelt, the youngest man ever to be elected President.
