(Red Cloud, NE) — The Disney film Planes: Fire and Rescue will be shown on Saturday, December 13 at 10 a.m. in the Red Cloud Opera House Auditorium. This event is free and open to the public.


Celebrate Cather's Birthday!

Willa Cather's 141st birthday is Sunday, December 7, 2014. As a way of celebrating her place in American culture and raising some financial support for her Foundation, would you consider hosting a party in her honor? You choose the date—preferably within a month or so of her birthday—and you choose the kind of party, the number of guests and the suggested donation. Invitations and publicity about the events will be provided by the Willa Cather Foundation.

(Red Cloud, NE) — The Red Cloud Opera House Gallery is currently displaying two styles of artwork, including artistic photography by Michael Dixon and visual mixed media art, by his wife, Mary Dixon.


Initial Construction on National Willa Cather Center Begins

October 21, 2014

On October 9, 2014, phase one of construction began on the historic Moon Block building in downtown Red Cloud, Nebraska, which will become the National Willa Cather Center. "Beginning construction is a milestone in recognizing Willa Cather's enduring legacy. We are grateful to more than 350 individuals and foundations nationwide who have made this possible," said Honorary National Chair, Ken Burns.


New Addition to the Archive

The Willa Cather Foundation has recently received a fascinating letter as an addition to our collection of Cather artifacts. The letter, written by "(Miss) Willa Sibert Cather," is addressed to "Mrs. Cleary," a woman we know as Kate M. Cleary, a fellow Nebraska writer. Mrs. Cleary, we surmise from the letter, had written to praise Cather's story "The Sculptor's Funeral," which had appeared in a 1905 issue of McClure's magazine.


Great Plains Ecotourism Coalition

The Willa Cather Foundation is delighted to announce their membership in the Great Plains Ecotourism Coalition, beginning November 7. The coalition, a project of the Center for Great Plains Studies at the University of Nebraska, is committed to promoting environmental conservation and nature-based tourism throughout the Great Plains.
